Cupcake!

Saturday night we had the best tour in Wiscasset! Funloving folks along and… Cupcake the dog. I believe Cupcake is a Golden Retriever, but in any case, she is the best trained dog I’ve ever seen!

She seemed to enjoy the history of Wiscasset and even helped us out with the name of one of the ghosts, according to her owner. We did not notice her reacting to anything in the area, though some say that animals can be sensitive to paranormal activity.

It was a full moon night, but due to being overcast, we were not able to enjoy it at all! Some weird pictures were taken at the cemetery, but I believe the anomolies were caused by the mist and moisture in the air.

Cupcake liked to be right at the front of the line with me, I’m not sure if she thought she was helping or if she felt protected by the safety of my Red Cloak!

Well behaved dogs are always welcome on our tours!

Haunted Maine Lighthouses

Into lighthouses? Haunted ones?

The Lady in the Red Cloak will be telling some haunted Maine lighthouse stories, as well as a brief history of each, at an Adult Education class later this month (April).

If you want to read more about it, or sign up for the class, please go to this link for MSAD40, http://msad40.maineadulted.org/courses/course/haunted_lighthouses_of_maine. Hopefully I’ll see you there!

A different Haunted Lighthouse opportunity is available in August, put on by my sister company, Mysterious Destinations. It is a 4 day/3 night bus tour of coastal Maine in which we’ll stop at 7 lighthouses and hear tales of many more! There will be the opportunity to do some searching for paranormal activity, if you wish, at most of the stops. There will be instruction on “ghost hunting equipment” and there will be equipment available for guests to use. We’ll also offer walking tours of 3 haunted Maine villages telling a few ghost stories along the way, and a stop at the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Check it all out at http://www.mysteriousdestinations.com/component/content/article/10-tours/90-haunted-maine-lighthouses-august-20-23.

I hope you’re enjoying Spring – if you’re experiencing Spring anyway! We had snow flurries yesterday and today here in Maine!

Full Moon Explore Results

We had a great group join us on Saturday night’s Full Moon Midnight Explore at the Rufus Flye house in Damariscotta, Maine! We started with more than a light supper which included a choice of lobster roll or crab cakes among others, thanks to Salt Bay Cafe. After a short history of the building and paranormal happenings there, an explanation of devices that would be used during the evening, and the plan for exploration, the hunt began!

We split into 3 teams, each of which had an EMF detector, camera and flashlight. A K2 meter was used by one group, and we had 2 EVP recorders as well as an infared non-contact thermometer and 2 video cameras.

Several EVP sessions were done in different parts of the building, one which included a guest feeling something brush against her bare leg and stay there for approximately 3-4 minutes. The temperature surrounding her dropped about 3 degrees at that time!

In another area of the building there was some very active EMF activity. An EVP recording was taken there as well.

During a break for coffee and soda, we experimented with dowsing rods, trying to get the spirits to communicate with us that way. The evening wrapped up about 1:00 am.

Due to the large amount of data to be evaluated, we do not have results ready to post yet, but I wanted to give you a short idea of how the evening went.

Results will be posted on our new website www.mysteriousdestinations.com as soon as possible, please check back often. This new website is a sideline expansion of Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, and will be offering another Explore at the Rufus Flye House on October 15, as well as an Explore at the haunted Winter Street Center in Bath in September, 2 Halloween overnights and a cruise to the Western Caribbean in March! You will want to join us on all of these adventures for sure!

Only 5 days left…

Do you dare to join us for a Full Moon Midnight Explore? There are still a few spaces available for the August 13 adventure where we’re going to investigate 3 full floors of the haunted Rufus Flye house in Damariscotta! We’ll start with a light buffet supper at 9 and the stories of  the paranormal activity that happens there will be told. Then demonstrations of investigative equipment will be given, guests will split into teams and the exploration will begin! Will we encounter the ghost? Will we see an apparition? Will we hear a disembodied voice?

Haunted House Exploration on the Night of the Full Moon

Red Cloak Haunted History Tours will be hosting a Midnight Explore at the Main Street Damariscotta building that houses Salt Bay Café, the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce (DRCC) and the Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA). The Midnight Explore will take place on Sat., Aug. 13 – a full moon night!

Heavy footsteps on an empty stairway, an ethereal mist that passes through darkened hallways, doors that open and close, shadows seen where there’s nothing to cast a shadow, and…  a ghost that calls employees by name! These are some of the experiences of paranormal activity that have happened at Salt Bay Cafe.

The Midnight Explore will begin at 9 p.m. with a light buffet at Salt Bay Café. During the meal there will be a briefing on the history of the building and the manifestations associated with it, as well as instructions on how to use the paranormal detection equipment. The group will split into teams and explore the Salt Bay Café areas of the building, then move on to the upper floors occupied by the PWA and the DRCC. The Midnight Explore will wrap up at 2 a.m.

Guests will be invited to participate in actual evidence collection activities, such as using meters to identify areas of electromagnetic field (EMF) activity (thought by some to be associated with a paranormal presence), using a digital recorder to pick up electronic voice phenomenon (EVP), and using video and still cameras to capture unusual images.  Observations and any evidence from the Midnight Explore will be published on the Internet.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the event will go to benefit the PWA, which has the mission of conserving the natural resources of the Pemaquid Peninsula through land and water stewardship and education.

The fee for the Midnight Explore, which includes the light buffet, is $45 per person.  The group’s size is limited due to both the size of the building and the availability of equipment, so reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. 207-380-3806

Investigators from the Maine Ghost Hunters Society will be joining “The Lady in the Red Cloak” for a series of special Haunted History Tours! A team of investigators will come equipped with devices that will help see the unseen… whether by image, sound, or electromagnetic activity. The specialized equipment will be used to test areas on the tour for the possible presence of paranormal activity and will be demonstrated to the guests. The first of these special walks will be on August 24, a full moon night, in Bath, at 8:00 pm. These particular tours will focus a bit more on haunted spots than history and may take a bit longer than the usual 90 minutes, due to the demonstrations. There will also be a similar tour in Damariscotta on Aug. 31 and one in Boothbay Harbor on Sept. 10 (at the regular tour times). More dates will be coming so keep checking the calendar section of the website! These tours are $17.50 and are by reservation only.
