Maine Lighthouses

We’ve been doing a lot lately with Maine Lighthouses. They are so iconic and romantic and full of history! Do you think many are haunted? It seems that may be the case!

We actually do know quite a few tales of haunted lighthouses, in fact one is on the cover of our most recent book, “Ghost of the Boothbay Region.”

Maine has over 60 lighthouses, many of which are open to the public or at least able to be seen  by land. Others are visible by short boat trips. Several have museums or informational centers and gift shops. In Rockland, the Maine Lighthouse Museum is open year round.

Next month, on Saturday, May 21, I will be leading a special Lighthouse Cruise that will view 5 lighthouses in the Boothbay Harbor area (weather permitting) and then stop at Burnt Island Lighthouse for an up close look at the tower as well as the outbuildings and keeper’s house.

You’ll learn about the lives of some of the keeper’s – their joys as well as hardships, their routines and their families. I’m sure I won’t be able to resist a ghost story or two, as well!

This is a morning cruise, so you’ll have time for lunch and some exploring in the Boothbay area in the afternoon. The link to purchase tickets is below.

In the late summer and fall, we’ll also be doing some Lighthouse Legends and Lore cruises with Maine Maritime Museum. These will also include much history as well as haunted tales and ghost stories. The link to purchase tickets for these cruises is below, though I don’t think they are listed yet, so keep checking!

Hope to see you soon!

Cupcake!

Saturday night we had the best tour in Wiscasset! Funloving folks along and… Cupcake the dog. I believe Cupcake is a Golden Retriever, but in any case, she is the best trained dog I’ve ever seen!

She seemed to enjoy the history of Wiscasset and even helped us out with the name of one of the ghosts, according to her owner. We did not notice her reacting to anything in the area, though some say that animals can be sensitive to paranormal activity.

It was a full moon night, but due to being overcast, we were not able to enjoy it at all! Some weird pictures were taken at the cemetery, but I believe the anomolies were caused by the mist and moisture in the air.

Cupcake liked to be right at the front of the line with me, I’m not sure if she thought she was helping or if she felt protected by the safety of my Red Cloak!

Well behaved dogs are always welcome on our tours!

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me!

Pirates are taking over midcoast Maine! Good Pirates, of course. This weekend Pirates invade Damariscotta as a fundraising event for charity and next week they take over Boothbay Harbor for Windjammer Days!

To join the fun, we’re doing a special Pirate Tales Tour tomorrow (6/22) for a school group in the morning; and at night if you mention “Pirates” when making your reservation, we’ll donate 20% to the local charity that the Pirates are benefiting! If you ask your guide, Christine, very nicely, she might even tell a pirate tale or 2!

Next week, during Windjammer Days, we’ve tweaked our tours so that there’s some focus on Pirates in Maine (particularly the Boothbay Harbor Area) – yes, there  really were! We’ll also tell a bit about Windjammer history in Boothbay Harbor along with some ghosts, of course!

So… Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of… your choice!

More Midcoast Maine Haunted History Opportunities

Beginning in September, when we change tour times to 7:00, I’ll be offering a later tour as well.  4 nights a week (Saturday through Tuesday) you’ll have the option of beginning at 9:15 pm. So, if you’ve always wanted to take a midcoast Maine Haunted History Tour, but the times didn’t mesh with your dinner hour or work schedule, now you will have a choice! Due to limited calendar space, I’m not going to post these extra tours on the schedule page, just give me a call, or note a later time in your reservation request.

These later tours are always an option by special request. Don’t forget daytime tours and private tours are as well! Do you have a firepit or fireplace at your home or cottage? Invite me over for Spectral Stories by firelight!

For even more opportunities, go to www.mysteriousdestinations.com and see what we’re offering there! Check back often, we’re continuing to add events and trips!

Tour Options Available

I’ve had a couple of requests lately for daytime walks – yes, we are certainly available for daytime tours if that is what works better for you and your group! Mysteries and ghosts are not around only in the evenings…

Other options that we have for tours include (but are not limited to) fireside tales at your home or cottage (or maybe even inn), driving tours of midcoast haunts, historical tours only, camp or school groups, seafaring tales, private tours, cemetery tours, family reunions, birthday parties, themed tours, etc.

Of course some of the above would need advance notice, some would have a different price structure, and all would be based on availablity.

Upcoming Tour Schedule

A note to those of you looking at the upcoming summer/fall schedule… we do not have a firm schedule in all of our towns yet, so do not be discouraged! There will be tours in Camden, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset and Bath July through October, dates are just not firm at the moment. If you have particular times that you’d like to request a tour, please get in touch with me – usually special requests can be accomodated.
